What is a challenge in your own yoga practice?
A challenge for me right now is listening to the shifts that are needed to be made in my asana practice. I naturally default to pushing myself through the asanas and have conditioned my body over the years to go, go, go. Don’t get me wrong — I love a strong, challenging flow. But I’m starting to notice the difference between pushing from a place of connection vs habit. Right now in my personal practice, I’m working on coming back to what actually feels true for my body and my season of life, and letting that be enough. It’s very humbling, but also really grounding.
What is something you’ve learned about yourself from teaching yoga?
I’ve learned that connection and authenticity is more important than perfection. Showing up and being human and silly rather than taking things too seriously has helped me open up as a teacher and also has allowed others to feel comfortable in this little community we’ve built.
What about teaching lights you up the most?
What lights me up the most is creating a space where people feel safe to be themselves and helping them get out of their heads and into their bodies. I also love creating a little community where people feel welcomed, never judged and can feel like they are a part of something collectively bigger than themselves.
